The Gala Court 2008
Gala Queen
My name is Rachel McCallion. I am currently a pupil at Strathaven Academy, soon to be sitting my higher exams. I feel honoured and privileged to have been selected to represent my town as Gala Queen 2009.
I have lived in Strathaven all my life. I have a younger brother Bradley who is in P7 at Wester Overton and will be joining me in this years gala court.
Outwith school, my main hobby is football. I was proud to have played for Strathaven Dynamos first ever girls football team, and after two years, I was lucky enough to become a part of Hamilton Accies under 17s squad.
I also have a passion for music. I am a keen pianist and enjoy musical theatre both in and out of school. I have had great fun taking part in many school shows at Strathaven Academy. I have a part time job in The Old Smiddy which I really enjoy as I get to meet new people.
Im really looking forward to Gala Day 2009 and am pleased to have Chris as my champion
Queen's Champion
My name is Christopher Coulter. I am 17 years old and in 6th year at Strathaven Academy where I am currently sitting highers. At school I am a Buddy and Loudon House Vice-Captain. In September, I am going to Glasgow College of Nautical Studies to do a degree in Marine Operations.
Outwith school, I like football and golf, and I work part-time at Scotmid in Strathaven, which I enjoy.
I am both honoured and excited to have been chosen as Rachels Champion and we are both looking forward to our day.
Retiring Gala Queen - Emma Jackson
It was a privelege to have been elected Gala Queen for 2008. I had a wonderful day and have thoroughly enjoyed my year as Gala Queen.
I would like to thank everyone on the committee for making both Gala Day and my year as Gala Queen a fantastic experience - as well as Shirley Murphy for making my dress.
I was extremely glad that Robin was my Champion and would like to thank him for helping make Gala Day and the Gala Events such fun.
Most of all I want to wish Rachel and Christopher all the best for a great Gala Day 2009.
